It is important not to think of Buddhism as a philosophy in the same sense that we do Western philosophy. For example, Nagarjuna, Dogen and Shinran are expressing their personal religious understandings rather than making objective statements about the external world. Therefore, they are not the Eastern equivalents of Aristotle, Plato or Descarte. This course will explore how Buddhist practices become captured as texts. That is, the explanation follows the experience.
