Continuing from the previous lectures of the Pure Land Masters from India to China, this course presents the masters of China and Japan who direct us to the essence of “Living” as a Mahayana Buddhist. They are the fourth master Daocho and fifth master Shan-tao in China, and Genshin and Genku (Honen) in Japan. Interestingly, there are two in-person relationships between Daocho and Shan-tao, and Genku (Honen) and Shinran, meaning those teachers and students actually met and directly conversed Q&A. This interactive relationship is an important aspect in learning Buddha’s teachings. We now depart to the beginning of the last Dharma-age called mappō starting in 552 C.E. in China to see Daocho’s worldview through the lenses of Mahayana Buddhist.
